Loving Our Way To Better Government
Written by Katherine Hollyday
Monday, 04 June 2007
There is no doubt that the past several years have been stressful and divisive under the Bush administration. It has been especially painful for Democrats watching the crimes and cruelty that our government has perpetrated. As honest, hardworking citizens, we feel a sense of moral outrage at the corruption and profiteering that we’ve observed at the highest levels of our government, and it’s all too easy to fall into a mindset of hatred and victimization.
Unfortunately, when we succumb to these base emotions, we surrender our power, and lose our ability to act constructively. As tempting as it is to revel in these dark emotions, we must resist them if we are to create positive changes in ourselves, and in our country. We must, instead, associate ourselves with the positive power of "light" if we expect to be worthy of the enlightened government, and the positive social change we seek.
Negative emotions such as hatred, anger, vengefulness, depression, and hopelessness are forces of evil and destruction. They cloud the mind, pollute the heart, and destroy our sense of inner peace and even our health. Medical research has documented the destructive and disease-inducing effects that negative emotions and stress have on the body. Furthermore, these negative emotions obstruct our connection with our higher essence, and make it difficult for us to receive spiritual energy and inspiration. If we are to master our world, we must connect ourselves with the highest power, which is divinity. For, the divine is the source of all things, and the most powerful force in existence. If we can align ourselves with this most powerful force, we will become invincible. The question is how do we do this?
During the 'Republican Revolution' you heard (and actually still hear) Republicans boasting that they wanted to run government as a business. They pretend that they know some better way to manage government functions and cut costs. Many Americans fell for this rhetoric, and initially supported the Republican plan. Well, results are in, and the proof is in the pudding. If you haven't been paying attention to what the Republicans have done to this country, then you'd better wake up—and fast!
The nation, under Republican governance, is now virtually bankrupt, and has become hopelessly incompetent thanks to the 'business' management tactics of these slick 'businessmen' politicians. Thanks to Republicans, America is now the largest debtor nation in the world, and has the manufacturing base of a third-world country. What is left of America's manufacturing base is rapidly being bought up by foreign interests because of the massive trade deficits and national debt generated by Republican administration actions and policies. The alarming truth is that America is now, in reality, a third world country, and is spiraling fast into political decline and economic ruin.
From now on, when you hear anyone talk about running the government like a business, you should understand that what he or she is really talking about is corporatism—also known as fascism. The Republicans have shown us what they really mean when they say that they want to run government like a business. It’s running the country in a manner that creates profits for big business and themselves. It’s giving priority to big business lobbying in exchange for contributions. It’s lifting government regulations so that corporations can pollute and rape the environment at will. It’s privatizing government functions so that big corporations can make hefty profits skimming money off the top of government programs, to the detriment of taxpayers. It’s profiteering without regard to human rights, human life, or common decency. Their conservatism takes the form of scaling back and shutting down social programs, in order to take those funds and deposit them into the pockets of their very wealthy corporations and cronies.
What these fascists don’t tell you is that government is a super-efficient, ultra low-cost organization that is able to administer services and perform functions in a way that business can never rival, because government doesn’t have to make a profit in order to keep running, and it doesn’t pay corporate executives exorbitant multi-million dollar salaries and compensation packages. Privatization only raises the cost of running the country. Privatization really only serves to put a middleman between government and taxpayers, and increases the chances that there will be corruption and breaches of privacy—especially when these government functions are outsourced to other countries.
